BMW’s 2013 X1 Better Than 30 HW MPG

BMW has revealed the fuel economy numbers for the 2013 X1 crossover, and the numbers are impressive, to say the least.

With up to 24 City and 33 Highway MPG, the X1 is a great source of relief from the ever wallet-draining gas pump.  With a 240HP 2.0L inline 4-cylinder engine feeding an automatic 8-speed transmission, BMW has equipped the X1 to be the perfect crossover for families on the go.

Coming to the US this fall, the X1 will also provide options for those looking for a little more power behind the wheel.  An optional upgrade to the base X1 is the AWD, 300HP inline 6-cylinder engine, producing 18 City and 27 Highway MPG.

BMW Offers New Lease Protection Program

BMW 335iBMW Financial Services, the leasing arm of BMW, has unveiled a new program designed to protect lessees from excess wear and use charges. The program, called BMW Lease Protection, must be purchased at time of new-vehicle delivery and covers up to $3,750 in excess wear and use charges at the end of your lease.

In recent years, manufacturers have be cracking down even more on lessees who turn in their vehicles with excessive wear and tear, especially when this wear affects the resale value of the car. This new program should help buyers feel more comfortable when signing a lease knowing that they have protection from up to $3,750 in fees.

“Our new BMW Lease Protection product, which some might refer to as extended-wear-and-tear coverage, virtually eliminates the potential out-of-pocket costs of common repairs at lease-end , thus making the leasing experience that much more pleasurable,” explained Lisa McPherson, BMW Financial Services general manager of insurance, in a release made available to Torque News. “This is our latest program to make leasing a BMW (or a MINI) a pleasurable experience and minimizing issues surrounding wear and tear, tire and wheel problems and minor dings and dents which may become apparent when the vehicle is returned at the end of the lease.”

“One of the reasons people lease cars is for a virtually worry-free driving experience, one which enables them to enjoy their vehicles for the life of the lease and then either walk away or move into their next BMW or Mini,” explained McPherson. “We understand this and are continually upgrading the BMW Ultimate Lease to make the experience that much more pleasurable and rewarding for the BMW Financial Services customer. Taking the costly surprises out of the lease experience by providing BMW-level protection is the obvious way to do just that.”

Items that are covered by the program include

  • Dents and dings
  • Tires
  • Wheels
  • Upholstery, rips, tears
  • Glass
  • Headlamps, fog lamps, tail-lamp assemblies
  • Bumpers, step bumpers, surrounding trim

The US Finally Gets the BMW X1

2013 BMW X1The BMW X1 is a relatively new model, only coming to German buyers three years ago. All this time, Americans have been hoping BMW would bring the small, sport activity model over here, and BMW has said all along that it will…eventually. Now that day has finally come. BMW showed off the US-bound X1 at the New York Auto Show yesterday.

A little brother of sorts to the popular BMW X3, the X1 competes directly with the Acura RDX, Infiniti EX, Land Rover Range Rover Evoque, Audi Q3 (still not available state-side) and an upcoming crossover from Mercedes-Benz that is supposed to be built on the A-Class platform. However, the BMW is the only model in this class to be based on a rear-wheel drive platform. Yesterday BMW showed off the models that it says will soon be available here in the US.

The entry level model, the X1 sDrive28i, will be powered by a 240-horsepower, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and will start at just over $31,000 MSRP. For another $1,700, BMW will also offer an all-wheel drive version with this engine. The top-of-the-line model will be an all-wheel drive xDrive35i. This model will feature a 300 horsepower, 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine and will start at just under $40,000. We have not been given any performance or fuel economy numbers yet.

First Look at the BMW i8 Spyder in Motion

The i8 Spyder is the newest concept to come out of BMW. The car uses the same engine, and has the same striking exterior design as the i8. The car features 3 different driving modes, electric, gas, and a combination of both. The i8 Spyder comes with a 3-cylinder, 1.5-liter gas engine, paired with a 96kw electric motor. Using the two engines together the i8 nets drivers approximately 78 miles per gallon. More importantly the BMW i8 Spyder can do 0-62 mph in just 5.0 seconds, with a top speed of 155 mph.

BMW Wraps up Geneva Motor Show 2012

The 2012 Geneva Motor Show was a big show for European automakers, including BMW. Many new models and concepts were unveiled at the show, some good, some bad, and some just plain outrageous. BMW had a very good show, showing off a few new models, many of which were adaptations of current models (think BMW 640d xDrive a “spin-off” of the 6-Series).

BMW put together a short YouTube video that shows off all the great BMW models at the Geneva Motor Show. Check it out and tell us what you think is the best BMW model at the show.

BMW M6 Coupe at the Geneva Motor Show

The sporty BMW M6 Coupe made its world debut a few days ago at the Geneva Motor Show and it turned a lot of heads, and not just because of its screaming orange paint. The new M6 Coupe is wider and lower than the standard 6 series, which gives it a lower center of gravity, improving road handling and agility.

Take a closer look at the beautiful new BMW M6 Coupe.

BMW Debuts 640d xDrive Ahead of Geneva Motor Show

A few days ahead of its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show, BMW is showing off the all-new 640d xDrive. The new 6 Series model is a near perfect blend of raw power and fuel economy, something we can all appreciate in these times of near $4 /gallon of gas.

The new diesel powered model of the BMW 640 features a powerful 3.0-liter TwinPower turbo engine that delivers 313 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque.

The new model will be released in both coupe and convertible body styles. The coupe model is expected to do 0 to 62 mph is about 5.2 seconds while maintaining average fuel consumption of 40 mpg.

Where else are drivers going to find a large convertible or coupe that runs at such a high level, while still getting 40 miles per gallon? Combine that with the updated all-wheel-drive system that will be featured on the BMW 640d xDrive and you have what will quite possibly be the perfect vehicle.

Buyers that are in need of 4 doors should check out the all-new BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe, which features similar power and body lines with the addition of two rear doors for a bit more comfort.

BMW M5 v. Jaguar XKR-S

The BMW M5 and the Jaguar XKR-S are both new designs of previous models and both are high performance luxury cars. Both vehicles come from brands with a background in performance and luxury and both models live up to and in many ways exceed the high standards set by their predecessors.

So how do these two models compare side by side? Take a look as AutoWeek puts them both to the test.
